So we went to the second lake that someone had recomended to us and it looked like this:
The 3rd lake we scouted out looked like this:
Lake #2 won and we had a great time! All 3 campers fit perfectly, were in pretty level spots and all 7 people and 4 dogs had plenty of space to spread out for playing and fishing.
Scouting trips have become a very important, and fun, part of scheduling our camping trips. It's easier to scout out where you want to go and how to get there before you leave than, it is to end up trying to pull the camper or drive the motorhome home through areas that we probably shouldn't. For longer trips we plan on taking in the future, this won't be an option. But when the areas are closer to home, scouting trips turn into really fun day trips. Scouting trips also make it easier to plan what to bring on the future trip and it makes it easier to plan what you want to do while you're in the area. You can see what restaurants and stores you want to check out, what landmarks are in the area, what gas stations are easy to get into with a camper or motorhome and which campground is creepy and which isn't. In some of the areas we camp, it's nice to know the safest way to get the camper in and out and which dirt road is an actual road and which one is actually someone's driveway or a dead end with no way to turn the RV around.
