As a kid, I loved setting up the tent in the yard or the camper in the driveway and "camping" for a night or two. It was a lot of fun to pretend it was just us kids on a camping trip or replaying some of our favorite camping trips. As an adult, I didn't think I would want to camp in the driveway unless a really cute niece or nephew asked to set up a tent in my yard or sleep in our camper during a sleepover. This past weekend we needed to visit Camp Driveway. We have had a lot going on with my dad being in the hospital and stresses at work so when we called and canceled our reservations for the vacation we had planned for next week, we decided we needed to do something fun
We ate dinner on the patio where the girls begged for french-fries and hamburgers.
There was even encounters with wildlife including bunnies and hummingbirds (hummingbirds wouldn't pose for photos). There was also an incident with a rattlesnake, but the dogs and I took full advantage of Camp Driveway being located right next to our safe house
We enjoyed some s'mores in homemade granola bar form and then when the mosquitos and gnats drove us crazy, we headed to the camper. The mosquito bites that have itched all week added to the authenticity of the experience.
We have made a few upgrades to the camper since the last time we used it so we were able to try the upgrades out including the new water bowl for the dogs. Kaos appreciated being to able to drink enough water to quench her thirst and not have to wait for the bowl to be refilled. Sasha appreciated there being some water left in the bowl after Kaos was done drinking.
Another upgrade that is still in the process of being completed is curtains! I HATE mini-blinds and so do the dogs. I have been making curtains so we can get rid of all of the mini-blinds in the camper. The curtains help with the heat and cold, too. The side that faces out is tan to help reflect the sun away, the inside is a cool print that goes with our outdoor theme and between those 2 layers is a black layer which ads a layer to keep the cool or warm air in (depending on the season) and also makes it so people can't see our shadows at night when we are in the camper. The dogs like the curtains because they can be pulled back so that they can look out the windows easier.
We have never used the microwave in the camper so we made some popcorn and watched a movie. The microwave works great, but it's not very photogenic. We haven't tried out the oven yet, but we'll save that for a fall camping trip when the weather is cooler.
The dogs were a little confused at first, but then figured out what was going on and they joined in the fun. They wanted to get in the boat, but Driveway Lake doesn't exist so they settled for belly rubs and chewy treats.
Camp Driveway was a great stress reliever and a nice "get-a-way" for the night. It was a little different than how I remembered it as a kid, but still as much fun. I think we need to visit Camp Driveway more often.
