How does a family who loves fishing announce they are adding another family member? First, you have some t-shirts made with a fish-hook heart on the front that says "Guess What!!" on the front and "I'm Getting A New Fishing Buddy!!" on the back. Then, you invite a bunch of friends and family over and have the girls walk-in with their t-shirts.
Then, comes the gender reveal! How do you top the t-shirt idea? Well, first you call in a few favors from a family friend to cut out pieces of wood into the shapes of fish. Next you paint 3 of the fish green, 1 fish pink and 1 fish blue and call into a pair of other friends who own a print shop to make some lettering. You also ask the baby's shutterbug aunt to come and take photos (FYI: I am that aunt!!).
Our new fishing buddy is going to be a niece!!!
Our 2 nieces are excited about having a baby sister to teach how to fish and camp and play Princesses with.
We are excited to add another niece for us to spoil and make memories with! In December, watch for photos of a fishing themed baby shower!
Contest Postponed Due To Family Emergency.
This weekend we were finally able to take our new boat out. We had a great time, but our boat still doesn't have a name. We need some help naming our boat so we're having a boat naming contest! We can't wait to see the names you come up with, but we do have a few rules:
1.) The contest will run from now until Father's Day (June 15, 2014).
2.) Names have to be rated G, PG or PG-13.
3.) The names have to be original, no re-using the popular ones such as "The Office," "Slippery When Wet" and other popular boat names that are already used.
4.) We will judge who we think has the best boat name and even if we don't use the name for our boat, the winner will receive a Girls In The Outdoors prize package.
Here is a little info about our new boat to help you come up with a great boat name. We will be using the boat for fishing, water tubing, water skiing and some Aunt Hilary and Uncle Kris spoiling the nieces & nephews time. We will be enjoying lots of fun days on the water with our family, friends and even our dogs. The boat is a Hurricane Fun Deck 226 Deck Boat.
Here are a couple more pictures for inspiration. These pictures are taken in our yard the day we brought it home in the snow.
One of the best things about our boat is that it has the top area like a pontoon with plenty of area for everybody, but the part that is in the water is like a regular boat which makes the ride smoother and faster than a pontoon.
To submit your name idea comment on this post or on our social media pages. Remember to be creative, original and G/PG/PG-13. Good luck!!
Two years ago today, I posted my first blog post for Girls In The Outdoors. Because of that post, I have gained more confidence fishing, shooting, ATV riding and other outdoor activities. Last year I learned to fly fish and started geocaching and fishing from a float tube. I love sharing my adventures when I'm learning new stuff and I love teaching others. Thank you, to all of you, for supporting Girls In The Outdoors! I can't wait to see what we do in the next year! If you are in Cañon City, Colorado on May 3rd & 4th for Blossom Festival, be sure to stop by our booth at the craft fair at 9th Street and Royal Gorge Blvd. We will also have a booth at the Balloon Festival at the Holy Cross Abbey, also in Canon City, on Memorial Day weekend.
How did we celebrate our 2nd anniversary? First, there's the cake! You can't celebrate without cake! Gillian from Sweet Cheek's Cakery made us a funny tent, camping themed cake. Thank you Gillian!
Another way we like to celebrate is with a camping trip! You can see by the pictures below, the weather was a little cold and overcast but we still had a great time.
During our celebratory camping trip we did some fishing. My niece is getting pretty good at casting with her small rod. This summer I think she'll be casting with her spinning rod & reel just as good.
Of course we needed a campfire since it was cold and because campfires are fun. So Cori and Uncle Kris dug a fire pit.
Of course we had hotdogs cooked on the campfire!!
We spent a lot of time relaxing by the camp fire.
Because the fishing was so slow, we had plenty of time to have a ladder golf tournament, a washer's tournament and a corn hole tournament. Of course the cute 4 year old won, not because she's cute but because she was really good.
We also played some board games, she's also good at board games.
My husband got to try out his new float tube.
We also blew some bubbles.
Finally on the last day we caught a fish!
That's how we celebrated the Girls In The Outdoors 2nd anniversary!
Since we haven't been doing as much posting as we had wanted for our anniversary celebration, we will extend the celebration into May! On Mother's Day we will draw the name for the grand prize that includes cookies, jewelry, boingies, Schadeycreek Spinners and anything else I decide to put in there between now and then! Be sure to comment, like, favorite, retweet and share to earn entries!
